Civil Partnerships at Brighton Unitarian ChurchWe are pleased that we are now able to provide Civil Partnership Ceremonies at Brighton Unitarian Church.
At Civil Partnership Ceremonies we honour the love and commitment between two people with vows and symbols. We give couples the opportunity to create a service of meaning and beauty marking the start of their Civil Partnership. A personal choice Like all our rites of passage these ceremonies do not require conformity to religious codes. We emphasise that the decision to enter a Civil Partnership is a choice made by two individuals in relation to their love and commitment for each other, celebrated in the presence of their family, friends and wider community. The spiritual dimension Our Civil Partnership Ceremonies are based on the desire of couples to create a service drawing on their own spiritual beliefs. We encourage couples to explore their own spiritual lives and values before they begin designing their ceremony. The first meeting The celebrant is the person who will conduct your ceremony. When you first meet you might be surprised that there are no tests or "right answers" to be given. Often people coming to this first meeting come from different religious backgrounds. The Unitarian celebrant will only wish to assure themselves that the couple have thought seriously about their desire for a ceremony in a respectful religious context Elements of the service The celebrant will help you design your service giving you guidance on appropriate language, readings, music and vows. You will be encouraged to find readings that resonate with you, and offered help to write your personal vows. Civil Partnerships are usually arranged in good time so that couples can consider what they wish to include, from prayers, meditations, music and the exchange of rings. |
