Hello

Im Jennifer the minster for Brighton Unitarian Church . Little did I know theat when I walked through the doors of the church back In 2011 that 12 years later I would be the minister here!

Before training to become a Unitarian minster I had an eclectic mix of careers from residential social work with substance misuse , the homeless and probation to as a career as a chiropractor . I even managed a pub in my early twenties.

Throughout my I searched for a spirutla practice that could fit with me but never quite found it until I started coming to BUC

I found a place where I ws accepted just as I was but given he space to explore my spiritual thoughts and practices within a community.

After two years of turning up to worship at 11am and leaving at 12  I began to see the benefit of getting more involved and I then became a member and started to give back to the church

I had already trained as an interfaith minister and was an independent celebrant and soon these skills were put to use by giving services at BUC and in the district.

I was called to ministry in the summer of 2019 whilst at Summer school in Derbyshire. Despite initial reservations I began my staring in 2021 and joked the role of ministers in 2024.

Before serving at Brighton I had led the congregation at Hastings for 2 1/2 years during covid.

Its an enormous privilege to serve as a minster in the Unitaraisn Tradition but especially the church where I found my spiritual home.

As queer non binary person I had often encountered traditions and spiritual practices that did not align to my own believes and gender. Here at Brighton I found somewhere that I could bring my wholesale and my hope is that all that enter our church can find a place where they can be who they are truly mean to be in a safe and supportive environment .

In my spare time I am an avid sea swimmer - never leave home without a costume and towel! Being outside is my second happy place after church walling the Poppets or pottering in the garden.

Shouting at the football is also a pastime of mine

I look forward to meeting you as we walk along the spiritual path together

Jennifer
