Weddings
If you have reached this page, you may have already decided to get married and are looking for a church that can welcome your dreams and plans for your special day. May we offer our congratulations?
BUC is a sacred space in the heart of the city. We have been marrying people and offering blessings for couples in this church for many years and are proud to offer same sex, trans and heterosexual weddings as well as for those who have been divorced.
Whether you have differing beliefs, are unsure, or have no specific faith, you are welcome here. This church offers a spiritual setting for you both to make your vows, witnessed by your loved ones
As well as being a beautiful venue, BUC offers you a specialised package of support from your first enquiry right through to the big day itself.
Every wedding conducted here is unique, reflecting the beliefs and attitudes of both of you, as well as the values we hold here at the church. Everyone who marries here is part of the wider Unitarian community. We invite you to attend our services to meet us and learn more about our tradition.
After an informal chat with Jennifer, our minister, you will be introduced to one of our highly professional, trained celebrants (see here) who will support you throughout the planning and on the day.
They will help to design a bespoke ceremony that reflects your beliefs and attitudes, your love for each other, and your hopes for the future. This can include music, readings, singing, prayers, blessings and promises from religious and/or secular sources or aspects from other traditions that are meaningful to you both. We regularly conduct ceremonies for those who are not members of any faith group, for those who find their spirituality does not align with any particular religious philosophy, as well as for those wishing to have a ceremony that acknowledges their differing faiths. We will help you create a ceremony that is beautiful and spiritually meaningful to you.
To uphold Unitarian tradition, each wedding we hold here will include a period of quiet reflection, the lighting of our chalice, the exchange of legal vows, and the signing of the register marriage schedule.
We work closely with the local registry office to ensure that all ceremonies comply with legal requirements. You are required to contact your local registry office to declare your intention to marry here and your celebrant will help you with this.
The space of our elegant and iconic Grade II-listed church accommodates both large weddings with seating for over 100 guests, and small, intimate ceremonies.
It has excellent acoustics, an organ and a beautiful Steinway grand piano. There is disabled access and the church hall and kitchen are available for to hire for wedding receptions, for an additional charge.
