Meet our Celebrants

Rev Jennifer Sanders

Minister

Hello there

I'm Jennifer and have been the minister at BUC for 2 years having previously been a member of the church . For the last 12 years I have also been a celebrant both independently and for Unitarian Churches and chapels in the South East. I

ensure that people are able to recognise and mark the significant moments in their lives.

I wanted to commit myself to helping people mark their most important moments, whether happy or sad, whether public or private.

working with you to craft a ceremony that will meet your needs.

For some people that’s a quiet, intimate affair that marks a special moment, for others it’s a lively celebration that broadcasts great news to the world.

Whatever the circumstances, your ceremony will be unique, personal and heartfelt.

Loving celebrations of life and death

My role is to hold the space so that you can define the ceremony that will suit you best.  I work in partnership with you, family member

I help you work out what’s significant to you both, and how to express your love and commitment to each other with the support of your families, friends and community.

Fanny Tulley

Celebrant

My name is Fanny, and I have been a life celebrant for 10 years, supporting couples and families in celebrating significant landmarks in their lives.

Whether it’s a joyful occasion, or a sad occasion, it’s so important to get it right, and that’s what I’m here to help you do.

I want to know your story – what makes you tick, what excites you; your dreams, your hopes, your regrets and beliefs. I want to know about your loved one and what you mean to each other. And I want to put all of this into a beautiful ceremony for you which properly reflects who you are and your own spiritual connection.

But before you let me in to your story, you probably want to know a bit about mine. As well as being a celebrant, I’m also a member of Brighton Unitarians, and have been for 25 years. I believe that just about everything is better if we are kind to ourselves and each other, if we can listen to each other, and give ourselves a chance to be who we really are. I’m a mum and a wife (and got married in this church). I love singing, being in water, and being in the countryside with my elderly spaniel, Blake. I love the friendships I have, many of which have been made in this church, and I’m filled with gratitude for all I have.

Rev Susie Courtault

Interfaith Minister and Celebrant

After working as a social worker for 40 years, I trained as a minister and was ordained in 2012 by The One Spirit Interfaith Foundation.  This  organisation  embraces the Universal truth at the heart of all spiritual traditions and honours and supports peace-making where it is needed throughout the World. So for me, becoming involved in the Unitarian Church in Brighton made sense given my training.

At BUC we honour both Our Christian roots and pagan forbears - celebrating equinoxes, solstices

and moments in the calendar like Christmas and Easter. I lead services at Brighton and other Unitarian churches in the south east. I am an independent celebrant and also on the Rites of Passage Team. I am particularly interested in creating bespoke ceremonies for couples and their extended and often reconstituted families.

I love helping them  weave a  web of love around the people in their Lives who have come to celebrate their wedding day  with them. I am a grandmother of five, a mother of three,

And love reading, the creative arts generally - I love to sing!

John Naish

Celebrant
